18 Oct New app aims to help dementia sufferers express their pain – Ten Network Online
Dementia patients and those with limited communication may soon be able to better express their pain, thanks to a revolutionary new app that harnesses advanced facial recognition technology.
At least 50 percent of people suffering dementia also have chronic problems that will induce pain – recognising that pain, and then finding appropriate treatment, is of constant concern for carers.
The PainChek™ app hopes to make that process easier.
Philip Daffas was a key contributor to the project – he worked at a care home for over a decade. He saw an increase in the use of sedatives to calm people’s behaviour, “yet little change in their pain management.”
